Types of Web Hosting

Hosting is divided into six categories: free, shared, reseller, virtual servers, dedicated servers and co-location.

     * Free: The free housing is extremely limited when compared with the accommodation fee. These services usually add advertising on the sites and have limited space and traffic.
     * Shared accommodation (shared hosting): In this type of service clients are housed in several sites on the same server through the web server configuration program. It is a very good alternative for small and medium customers, is an economic service and has good performance.
     * Image Hosting: This type of accommodation is provided to store your pictures on the internet, most of these services are free and pages worth of advertising placed on your page to upload the image.
     * Reseller Hosting (reseller): This hosting service is designed for heavy users or people who sell the hosting service to others. These packages have a lot of space and domains available for each account.
     * Virtual Servers (VPS, Virtual Private Server) by using a virtual machine, the company offers the control of a computer apparently not shared. Thus, you can manage multiple domains in an easy and economic, in addition select the programs that run on the server. Therefore, the type of product is recommended for business web design and programming.
     * Dedicated Servers: The term dedicated server refers to an advanced form of web hosting where the customer rents or buys a computer, and therefore has complete control and responsibility to administer it. The physical care of the equipment and Internet connectivity is the responsibility of the hosting company, which usually have a data center.
     * Placement (or housing): This service consists primarily in selling or renting a physical space of a data center to put the customer why your own computer. The company gives you the power and Internet connectivity, but the server computer is chosen entirely by the user (until the hardware).

Usually distinguishes between paid and free services.

Paid services

This type of production, usually given by the contract for an Internet provider, which along with providing connection between the possibility of using virtual disk or storage site or combination thereof.

Free Services

This type of service is given by the base to be free and at no cost to the subscriber. However, those using this service, pages are usually low maintenance or that the owners do not have enough money to be maintained.

Another limitation of these offerings is that you have limited space and can not be used as a store of data, pages can accommodate subversive or adult content or not allowed.

Servers and services

A web hosting can be distinguished from another by the type of operating system, use of databases and generation engine in their websites. The combination known and most widespread type is the LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL and PHP), but is beginning to use a combination of Java.

Some of the more common services that can be delivered are FTP, and website management for clients in multiple databases.

Domains

Some hosting plans (but not free) include a domain name to make it easier to access the page. If not included, is the user to register a domain with a registrar or use a subdomain of the same company.
